Doorstep dinners
Earlier only one member of the family was working, so elaborate meals could be cooked. Today most family members spend a large part of the day away from home at work and commuting, so they have very little time and energy left to cook elaborate dinners. Breakfast and lunch are usually available at the office or workplace, dinner is usually the only meal eaten at home. Many prefer to use the services of restaurants who deliver dinner at the doorstep.
Home delivery of dinner is preferred by the diner and the restaurants or caterers offering the service. The customer saves the time spent going to the restaurant and waiting for the meal to be ready. It can be eaten in the comfort of the diners home and he or she can carry out other tasks simultaneously.
For restaurants, offering home delivery services increases the number of orders as many diners are too tired to visit the restaurant. They also save on the tables which could be occupied by the diner ,providing and cleaning the utensils used. Though some money has to be spent in packaging the food which is delivered at home, the savings usually offset the additional cost.
Some restaurants and caterers offering home delivery may specify a minimum order value for providing free dinners at the diners doorstep. If the food has to be delivered in a locality which is in the vicinity of a restaurant, there is usually no restriction on order value, but for distances more than a kilometer away, delivery charges may apply.
